About
I was introduced to racing at a very young age. My late Dad (John) would bring me racing most Saturdays. I always loved the buzz, the crowds, Dad’s friends and all their banter, but most of all I loved the horses. The crowds back then were always sizeable on a Saturday.
I wasn’t a very successful punter in my late teens and twenties. I had a lot to learn. The advent of the internet heralded the way for more strategic punting. You could now study horse racing properly. You could watch and analyse all pervious runs for each horse. At least now you could place a more informed bet.
I tried my hand at bookmaking for a year. I only made a small profit and so decided to give punting a proper go. Being a bookie was certainly an education. I learned that racing was not and is not fixed. To be a successful punter requires a lot of patience. A lot of time is spent watching, analysing, replaying and picking up as many pointers as you can along the way. These are the skills that I hope to share with you over the course of the next few months. The time I have put into to studying horses has actually increased over the years. There are no shortcuts if you are to do things properly.
My passion is National Hunt racing. The Cup final each year has to be the Cheltenham Festival in March. The weather over the winter months can be tough, especially without golf, but National Hunt certainly helps to brighten most days.
I love almost every sport but there is nothing quite like National Hunt racing especially if you can win a few quid from those bookie chappies. As they say, “money won is better than money earned”. I believe that betting within your means is crucial. Never put yourself under pressure because of betting….it’s not worth that. Hopefully the videos that become available on this site will help you become a better punter and make horse racing even more enjoyable.
